The Ancient Foundation Laid by Moses
The LORD revealed himself to Moses on the
mountain Horeb at a time when the Hebrews were slaves in Egypt. At first
Moses hardly even recognized him, for all that Moses saw was a burning bush. As
he noticed that the bush didn't burn up, he became
curious and came closer. The first words that the LORD spoke were,
'Moses, Moses. Do not come any closer. Take off your sandals, for the place
where you are standing is holy ground.' From this time on the LORD spoke often
with Moses.
Moses was obedient to the voice of the LORD in everything he said, the only
exception being the incident at the
waters of Meribah, which cost him his chance to enter the promised land.
Because of his obedience, the LORD could lay an enduring foundation for the
nation of Israel, granting them to become a prophetic people. Through their
obedience to his laws and sacrifices they would show forth his eternal covenant,
which would one day be established by the sacrificial death and resurrection of
the eternal Passover Lamb, his beloved Son.
A very special thing happened after the Hebrews obeyed the voice of the LORD on
the eve of the Passover. Every single one of them had a Passover Lamb sacrificed
for them. It's blood was placed upon the
two sides and the top of their doorframes, in the form of a cross.
Through thier obedience the LORD could lay an important piece of the foundation;
Israel is a nation which was redeemed by the blood of the Passover Lamb. From
that day on the Passover Lamb has played an important role through
all the generations of the Israelites.
Reflected by how the Hebrews were freed from slavery and the firstborn were
spared from death by the blood of the Passover Lamb, so has the
sacrifice of the Messiah Jesus, on the
eve of the Passover, redeemed those who believe on him from
Satan's hideous rule. On that
dark evening on the
14th of Nissan, at three o'clock in the afternoon, the
foretold Messiah died as a Passover Lamb to redeem us from
Satan's slavery. Was he not named Jesus by the angel, because he would,
through his death and resurrection,
save his people from their sins? He was that Passover Lamb who breaks
Satan's control over people, that they might
leave his kingdom and enter the Kingdom of God.
And beginning on the day of the Passover the LORD revealed himself to the
Israelites as a pillar of fire in the night and a cloud during the day. For the
next forty years he was continually visible in their midst.
Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory
of the Lord filled the tabernacle. Moses could not enter the Tent of Meeting
because the cloud had settled upon it, and the glory of the Lord filled the
tabernacle In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from
above the tabernacle, they would set out; but if the cloud did not lift, they
did not set out—until the day it lifted. So the cloud of the Lord was over the
tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the
house of Israel during all their travels Exodus 40,34-38
Disobedience to the Voice of the LORD
During the life of Moses and Joshua the glory of the LORD was continually
revealed. However, not long after Joshua died, the Children of Israel turned
from the LORD, no longer obeying him. Because of their disobedience the presence
of the LORD, as known during the lifetime of Moses and Joshua, slowly departed.
And the angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim.
And he said: '...I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you to the
land which I swore to your fathers; and I said: I will never break my covenant
with you; and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you
shall break down their altars; but you have not hearkened to my voice; what is
this you have done? Wherefore I also said: I will not drive them out from before
you; but they shall be to you as snares, and their gods shall be a trap to you.'
Judg 2,1-3
How patient and kind is the LORD, wishing so much that his people would return
to him. What does the LORD do as his people walk disobediently? Does he not draw
away from them his presence? Instead of having victory over the enemy, the enemy
becomes a snare to them, chastening them for their disobedience. Is it not the
wish of the LORD that his people would return to him? Even if the majority have
stiffened their necks, still if but some would turn their whole hearts to
seeking him, he would reveal himself mightily amongst them.
For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the
whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is whole
toward him.' 2Chr 16,9a
The nation of Israel had driften far from the LORD and were not willing to
repent. So the LORD brought against them the Midianites. And in their distress
they cried out to the LORD. In earlier times the LORD went before Israel and
drove out from them their enemies. But now the LORD had withdrawn his presence
because of their disobedience.
And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried to
the LORD because of Midian, that the LORD sent a prophet to the children of
Israel; and he said to them: 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: I brought
you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage; and I
delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that
oppressed you, and drove them out from before you, and gave you their land. And
I said to you: I am the LORD your God; you shall not fear the gods of the
Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but you have not hearkened to my voice.' Judg
6,8-10
Again the LORD told them the reason he had forsaken them; they refused to
hearken to his voice. Ever since Josua had died, it was rare that God spoke to
Israel. Over the centuries the LORD had become very quiet. One generation after
another would come and things did not change. Their children would be told of
how the LORD was with them in the days of Moses and Joshua. They would be told
of the great and mighty works he had done as he delivered them from slavery. But
where was his presence? Why was it now different than in the time of Moses and
Joshua? Was there anyone who would obey his voice; whose heart was whole towards
him? Amongst all the people of Israel, was it not Gideon whom the LORD chose to
speak with?
"But sir," Gideon replied, "if the LORD is with us, why has
all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our fathers told us
about when they said, 'Did not the LORD bring us up out of Egypt?' But now the
LORD has abandoned us and put us into the hand of Midian."
As so many other Israelites, Gideon had heard of all the wonders which the LORD
worked in the days of his fathers. But now the LORD was no longer with Israel.
Is not the absence of wonders one of the signs that the LORD has abandoned us?
Is not the absence of hearing his voice a proof that something is wrong? Yet
some would not accept this reproof, and acted as if hey were still living in the
days of Moses and Joshua; as if the LORD was still in their midst as a pillar of
fire.
During a time when the LORD had become very quiet, he spoke to Samuel, a young
child, about the coming judgment.
The boy Samuel ministered before the Lord under Eli. In
those days the word of the Lord was rare; there were not many visions. 1.Sam 3,1
In those days the word of the LORD was rare. The absence of the Lord speaking to
the people of Israel and not giving visions was directly related to their
disobedience. Certainly the later generations could not even discern where the
nation had gone wrong. They grew up, knowing that Israel was God's chosen
people. But who could understand that the LORD had abanded them? And how could
they then turn back to the LORD? Much of the ancient foundation laid by Moses
had been destroyed. Who could God find to be obedient to him as Moses was, that
the foundation might again be rebuilt?
The Ancient Foundation laid by Jesus and the Apostles destroyed.
In the days of Jesus and the apostles the Holy Spirit filled the earth with his
wonderous works. Whole villages would repent as they saw the power of the Holy
Spirit working together with the disciples. But just as with the Israelites, the
Church also
fell away from her
first
love and commitment of
forsaking all to follow Jesus. Was there anyone at all who lived as Jesus
had taught; directly under his command, hearing what he spoke and doing what he
told them? Did not Jesus himself say that
his sheep
hear his voice? Does not his people walk in a
supernatural way, as Jesus and the apostles walked; hearing his voice and
doing what he says?
Almost completely oblivious to what was happening, as early as 250 AD
sixty-six Bishops met together in North Africa to discuss the baptism of
infants. Was this the foundation laid by Jesus and the apostles? Did not Jesus
and the apostles lay the foundation of making disciples of all nations? Did not
Jesus teach how
baptism and making disciples go hand in hand? Did not Jesus himself
define a disciple as someone who follows him with their whole heart? But a
new type of Christianity was arising. And this type of Christianity included in
its foundation the baptism of infants.
In the year 301 AD Armenia becomes the
first Christian nation. The Armenian Church claims that
four million Armenians were baptized by
Gregory the Illuminator within seven days. The
temples of the pagans were destroyed and many who resisted becoming
Christians are put to flight. The reports write about how
Gregory first taught those whom he baptized. But when the King of a country
insists that everyone in his kingdom be Christians, putting all who resist him
to flight, does not this open the door for baptisms occuring that have nothing
to do with someone
believing the gospel and wishing to
be a disciple of Jesus?
Shortly thereafter Constantine I came to believe on Jesus. Not only did he
stop the persecution of Christians, this Roman Emperor
fought vigorouslyy against all who did not worship the true God. The whole
would was being christianized, The
Churches everywhere were flourishing. And yet it was a new kind of
Christianity, with a different foundation and a different baptism, no longer
requiring faith in those who preach the gospel and no longer requiring
repentance.
How fierce were the attacks against those did not agree with what the Church was doing.
Did not Paul foretell of a great falling away which would one day happen?
Let no man deceive you by any means:
for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first 2 Thes 2,3a
Paul knew that a great falling away would occur some day in the future. Just
shortly after he died, the Ephesian church, which he found and strengthend
personally, was at the brink of falling away. Of the seven churchs which the
book of Revelations was addressed to, two were already fallen away, three were
just at the brink of falling away, and only two were still established on their
faithfulness to Jesus; both of which were suffering
persecution from the
synagogue of Satan (the Jews at
that time).
How strange it is today that in most churches, if I tell them what Jesus has
spoken to me, I am looked at as someone to be avoided; a threat to their
organisation. But was it not Jesus who spoke to me while I was an athiest? If he
hadn't spoken to be, I would still be an athiest until today. Did not Jesus
himself say, '
My sheep hear my voice'.
What is the Church, when the people who attend do not hear his voice, but
instead become weary if someone claims that Jesus has spoken to them.
Could it be that most of the Church today is not really even in the Kingdom of
God? That Satan, as diabolial as he is, has dedicated a part of his kingdom for
a type of deception, that people think they are in the Kingdom of God, and are
really still in his kingdom? In this part of his kingdom the scriptures of the
Bible are written everywhere. His messengers who speak, they preach from the
bible. Just like the synagogues which had become the synagogues of Satan. that
As the time went by the whole nation was deceived and led so far away from the
LORD that they no longer even thought that the LORD was God. They did what they
thought was right[1], but their hearts were far from him[2]. The LORD sent then
Elijah to turn their hearts back to him. Were not most of the Israelites
convinced that Baal was God?
And Elijah came near to all the people, and said: 'How long halt you between two
opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him; but if Baal, follow him.' And the
people answered him not a word. 1Kgs 18,21
Could it be that many have replaced obedience to the LORD with keeping laws and
statutes? How important is it to the LORD that we meet in synagogues every
Sabbath? Is it possible that our ideas of being religious, that we think are
right before the LORD, are in reality something totally different than the type
of life the LORD has for those who are his servants[3]? What does it really mean
to serve the LORD? How do those live who stand directly in his service?
And Elijah the Tishbite of the settlers of Gilead said to Ahab, "As the Lord,
the God of Israel, whom I serve, lives, if there will be during these years dew
or rain except according to my word." 1Kgs 17,1
Is there some reason why the LORD is hiding himself from the children of Israel?
Where are the glorious works today, showing that he is in the midst of Israel?
Should we not rather cry out to him in bewilderment, wishing once again to see
his works as his presence is manifest before us[4]? S
Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways; as a nation that did
righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God, they ask of me
righteous ordinances, they delight to draw near to God. Isa 58,2
How can the LORD reach those whose ways are right in their own eyes? How
difficult it is for them to even recognize their error. Would not his reproof or
guidance only interrupt them in their busy religious lives?
Cry aloud, spare not, lift up your voice like a horn, and declare to my people
their transgression, and to the house of Jacob their sins. Isa 58,1
Certainly many in the days of Isaiah considered him a somewhat eccentric
prophet. ‘Why does he not just leave us alone in our diligent religious lives?
Do we fast regularly? Is not prayer the center of our lives? Are we not
continually meditating on the many laws we are to keep?’ The LORD himself was
asking them, ‘Are you really serving me?’
How important it was for the LORD that his people would listen to the Messiah.
Did not even Moses foretell of a time when his people would not listen to this
prophet? Did he not strictly warn them about this?
I will set up a prophet for them from among their brothers like you, and I will
put My words into his mouth, and he will speak to them all that I command him.
And it will be, that whoever does not hearken to My words that he speaks in My
name, I will exact [it] of him. Deut 18,18-19
The reason that Moses commanded the Israelites to keep all of these laws
foretelling the Messiah is so that his shadow would be visible amongst them. By
their obedience the Messiah could be seen living amongst them. But after the one
of whom Moses spoke was rejected, the laws had no more meaning. Those who
received him, with them he made the promised everlasting[5] covenant.
Is not the time at hand, where the cloud of his presence will return to Israel?
And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they shall look to me because they
have thrust him through; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for his
only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for
his first-born. Zech 12,10
But presently the ancient foundation is thoroughly laid in ruins. Who amongst
the Israelites will sacrifice their lives to be as Elijah, directly under the
command of the LORD himself? Who amongst the Israelites will walk as Moses
walked, speaking of the Messiah and bearing all consequences and persecutions
gladly?
And they that shall be of you shall build the old waste places, you shall raise
up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called The repairer of
the breach, the restorer of paths to dwell in. Isa 58,12
As in the time of the building of the second temple, who will commit themselves
to the work of restoring the ancient foundation[6]? As in the time of Nehemiah
building the walls of Jerusalem, who will commit themselves to the work of
repairing the breaches? Who is zealous for the house of the LORD? Was it not
required of the meal sacrifice, that it be salted with the salt of the
covenant[7]? Who has this salt for the new covenant that the LORD made with the
house of Israel?
Behold, the days come, says the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the
house of Israel, and with the house of Judah; not according to the covenant that
I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them
out of the land of Egypt; forasmuch as they broke my covenant, although I was a
lord over them, says the LORD. Jer 31,31-32
The Ancient Foundation Laid by Jesus.
What a glorious start did the early Church have! The cloud of the LORD’s
presence fell in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost and filled all of the
disciples of Jesus. These Jews were endowed with the power of the LORD and
brought his salvation throughout the known world, as Jesus commanded them.
But you will receive power when the holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be
my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the
earth." Act 1,8
They went throughout the earth, clothed with that same spirit as Elijah had.
And (behold) I am sending the promise of my Father upon you; but stay in the
city until you are clothed with power from on high." Lk 24,49
Yet how quickly did they fall from the place of honor given them! Just as the
generations after Joshua fell from obedience to the LORD, so did the Christian
Church soon fall from their heavenly calling. Yet how convinced they were that
the way they were going was right, not even aware that they were blind[8]! Who
could correct such convinced Christians of their error? Were not whole nations
coming to the faith on the Messiah?
It was no longer necessary that the LORD work miracles amongst them. The whole
earth was being filled with their churches. Yet the LORD and the angels in
heaven were greatly distressed with their activities.
The persecuted had become the persecutors. The miracle of rebirth had been
replaced with baptizing infants and forced baptisms. The whole earth shook in
fear of the Christians as the great Roman Caesars rose up proclaiming the faith
in Jesus.
Was this really what Jesus meant as he commanded: ‘Make disciples of all
nations?’ Did he really send them to baptize infants, who had not the ability to
resist their malicious doings? Was it his wish that those who would refuse to be
‘Christianized’ be killed or lose their property? How quick were the Caesars
ready to punish anyone who would dare to rebaptize!
Did not Theodosius II follow the example of Constantine in forbidding
re-baptism?
Anyone who performs rebaptism will have his property confiscated unless, for the
sake of his children, he returns to the catholic church. Places where rebaptisms
were performed will be confiscated. Re-baptizers may not make contracts or leave
wills. Theodosian Code XVI.1.2
Whoever would not recognize such baptisms as being legitimate would be
persecuted. His land would thereby be taken from him and his inheritance would
be given to the state. The Christians began persecuting the other Christians who
would not follow suit, starting with the Donatists in North Africa but including
anyone daring to resist the authority of the Caesar himself. In the Council of
Mela with Augustine from Hippo, all who would not recognize the baptism of
infants as being valid would be accursed.
Also it is the pleasure of the bishops to order that whoever denieth that
infants newly born of their mothers are to be baptized, or saith that baptism is
administered for the remission of their own sins, but not on account of original
sin derived from Adam, and to be expiated by the laver of regeneration: be
accursed. Council of Mela, Numida 417
The Jews who did not convert to Christianity were also persecuted. Although the
Churches were founded by Jewish disciples, and Jesus himself was a Jew, still
the Church also began to ravenously persecute them, destroying thereby even
their own roots.
What had happened to the Church? How did the beautiful light of virtue and love
become darkened so quickly? Was she not commanded to love her enemies? What
transformation had happened, turning her into a persecutor of those who would
not accept the faith in Jesus?
"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your
enemy.' But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute
you… Mt 5,43-44
No longer was it necessary for the Christians to pray for those who persecuted
them . Whoever would dare to persecute them would be severely punished. Instead
the persecutors forced whole nations to be baptized.
Can a king command all his subjects to be baptized? In an account mentioned in
Agathangelos[9], the secretary of Tridates III, the Armenian army wiped out the
pagan religions, destroying their temples and forcing the whole nation to be
baptized. According to this report, Gregory the Illuminator baptized four
million Armenian subjects in seven days. There is no mention of how many pagans
were killed because they refused. In this way, Armenia became the very first
Christian nation.
Should it surprise us that this type of Christianity did not experience the
works of the early Church? How greatly did the Christians rejoice as they
converted one nation after another. But did not those who no longer hearkened to
the words of Jesus become thereby unclean? Was not this new form of Christianity
something totally different than what Jesus died for?
Just as the foundation of the Jewish faith has gone so far from what the LORD
intended, so has also the foundation of the Church. Can we not once again
restore these original foundations which the LORD himself had laid? Instead we
are totally involved with building our own structures. In our many activities we
can no longer even see that the Tabernacle lifted up by Jesus and the Apostles
is now laying in ruins.
This site is dedicated to rebuilding the original foundations laid by Moses and
Jesus. All the books and other articles written have been written with this goal
in mind, to restore the wasted ruins and raise up again the ancient foundations.
In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up
the breaches thereof, and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in
the days of old; Amos 9,11
Conclusion.
The different books I have written go into a much greater depth concerning the
errors destroying the ancient foundations. I encourage anyone wishing to know
more to read the two books on the ‘Ashes of the Red Heifer’. Understanding the
mystery of the Red Heifer will answer many questions concerning how the Church
became unclean. The second book traces this cleanness through the middle ages
and into our time.
